Don’t Blame Your Children!
(Sonja Peschel / September 2001 / © Pesobeco Musikverlag)
1. Don’t blame your children for what you have done!
They are not you, they must live on their own!
You must be grateful that someone was mild
And gave you a child.
2. I am your child, tell me, what can I do?
First I must learn how to understand you,
Then I must learn to how walk and to see,
I hope you see me.
3. Now I am older, can walk on my feet,
Now I must learn how to write and to read.
Then I can understand your policy.
Can you understand me?
4. I’m nearly sixteen now and you blame me for
Having killed people in our last war.
I tell you now that this must be a lie,
I only cry,
When I see people die.
5. I want to grow up and want to be strong.
I might be right, sometimes I may be wrong.
I want to build up and will pay the bill,
But I will never kill!
6. Years have gone by, all the time I have grown.
I have three children all of my own.
I feel somehow I am them, they are me,
Eternity?
7. I don’t blame my children for what I have done.
They are not me. They must live on their own.
I must be grateful that someone was mild
And gave me a child.
