Though I could swear the place was right round here before
With confidence I told you I remember
Even though I knew you knew I wasn't sure

You whispered one day this would be my city
But it wasn't yet and we both understood
As you attempted to translate what I just told you
Then you said it better than I ever could

On a bridge in the evening mist
Gypsies and evangelists
Walk past the Saints and the Angels and us

As the Sun sets and reveals the night
I tried to find the words but couldn't quite
As you held your breath the silence grew
In the darkest black and the deepest blue

I lead you up the stairs into the bedroom
Where a poet died many years ago
And a vision of the life then flashed before me
That I could not hold but don't want to let go

As the Sun sets and reveals the night
Dying stars crown old street lights
