At the only store open on this whole downtown block
On a shelf next to records and pistols
I found your old guitar
I saw your Chevy Nova down at the salvage yard

We got heartaches all around
Got miles of rusted towns
I sit back and wonder how it all slipped through your hands
Factories crumble away
Like the long gone glory days of a broken heart land

Down in the alley by the warehouse
I found a painting on a wall that you did
You wrote your name in letters six feet high
So there's no mistaking this is where you lived
The dreams you had
Thought they would all come true
But they just faded out like this old picture you drew
