You came down like an ancient ride
And stole my heart one frightful night
Burned for but a second and then turned black
A precious rock I can't set back
I watched you fall and still in thrall
All in all what you had caused
Crumbling embers in the hall
And you never explained why

Your hair of gold, your skin so fair
Your eyes and lips beyond compare
A dress of braided gold you wear
Jewels and flowers here and there
Like stars stuck in the night's clear sky
As far apart as you and I
Up above the world so high

I catch your whispers now and then
And fold them into words again
Read between the lines just what you are
The son of many alms and ours
That meteoric flaming sky
Imprinted deep in my mind's eye
Grows weaker as the years go by
I could never explain, but I already knew why
