(On February 28th, 1986, Sweden was shocked to learn about the murder of prime minister Olof Palme.
Christer Pettersson was for a long time the prime suspect in the investigation and until his death he was maybe the most famous criminal and drug addict this country has seen.
He was arrested and put into custody on December 14th, 1988, and the following year he was sentenced for the murder of Olof Palme.
The verdict was appealed to the Supreme Court, which freed him due to lack of evidence.
Before this happened he had been convicted for manslaughter and a series of other crimes.
Almost every day people get convicted for crimes they did not commit.
But they still have to live with it for the rest of their lives, because if you're once branded a criminal, you're forever a "criminal".
To this day, Olof Palme's murderer is still at large.
The crime will be declared statute-branded in 2011.
