When I die I hope they play What a Wonderful World
While the song birds cry
And everything can move in slow motion in steps
Like it did when we were teenagers infinite in depth
As the child bandits take off to map the state land
The police men are wrestling with protester's hands
The college graduates are gettin' high with their dads
Burnin' time cause they want it to last
Me I'm just lying on the pavement watching helicopters pass
Drawing circles under heaven in geometrical paths
The chaos spins in sync around me
Waiting for the leaves to change
From this angle there is nothing left to rearrange
If I could only advance with my mom and my girlfriend holding my hands
Let the show start someone cue the opening band
I'm just an inch away from being pinched and waking up
You owe me a chance
Well I finally found my footing
But if I got the chance to do it all again I probably wouldn't

What a wonderful man where my headstone lies

Till flowers fill the baseball fields where we were young

Hollow and scared watching over you from the top of the stairs

And ma falls asleep dreaming in her hospital chair

Until the rooms that we grew up in turn to strip malls
The old script writer still believes his movies coming soon
The newly weds plan a suicidal honeymoon

As the mail woman leaves the love letters in her van
And the 21 year old soldier is finally home
